Earlier on Wednesday, OPD identified the motorcyclist who died as 31-year-old Juan J. Moreno-Tamayo. Police said he was wearing a helmet.
According to police, a 2001 Ford Explorer was traveling northbound on 32nd Street when the driver failed to yield at a stop sign, striking Moreno-Tamayo while he was riding his motorcycle; both the rider and the motorcycle ended up under the Explorer. The driver of the Explorer then fled the scene with his vehicle, police said, running over Moreno-Tamayo and his motorcycle in the process.
The Explorer, which police said is registered to Luis Velasquez-Ortiz, was located near 35th and I streets. Police asked anyone with information on the Explorer or the driver to call the OPD Traffic Unit at 402-444-5627.
The family of Moreno-Tamayo has set up a GoFundMe page for anyone who wants to contribute; the page says the money will go to his children.
