Court documents indicate a man arrested for an Omaha murder is also a convicted sex offender.
At about 10am Monday, police were called for a check the well being at a home near 34th & Weber St. There they find Merlin Prinz, 71, dead but he wasn't the only one inside when police arrive. Kenneth Munhall, 61, was there also and was arrested for first degree murder, use of a weapon to commit a felony, and prohibited person in possession of a weapon.
Prinz's nephews say Munhall was living at their uncle's home. They say their uncle was a nice quiet man who would help people in need because he had trouble telling people no.
“I think they were just disagreeing about something because they always got along. Merlin helped him out, but I don’t this guy’s background as much as I do,” said Jason Lanoue, nephew of the victim.
Munhall is in fact a registered sex offender in Nebraska. In 2006, he was convicted and sentenced to 17 years in prison in Iowa for kidnapping and assault. The crime occurred in 2005 in Pottawattamie County.
He will have his first court appearance for the 1st degree murder charge on Wednesday.
