Community members gathered to support the family of Destasia Straughn and her 2 year-old daughter. Police believe Dontevous Loyd, 23, killed the two individuals and injured three others near 108th and Military.
Kachelle Roby and Jamie Latner, both 18, and 21 year-old Larrion Williams were hospitalized after the shooting.
A tearful Nutrielle Smith stood in front of the room to talk about the moment her parents told her about her sister, Destasia Straughn’s, death.
“I wanted to tell her that I love her and that I love her, but I just hope that they find him,” Smith said through tears.
The community called for action to stop violence in parts of north Omaha. Other mothers, whose children were gun violence victims sat quietly among the group.
