Nebraska Attorney General Doug Peterson has filed criminal charges against Andrew F. Stebbing, the Lancaster County Treasurer.

The charges stemmed from an investigation by the Nebraska State Patrol and Nebraska Department of Revenue into private vehicle transactions conducted by Stebbing.

Stebbing, 53, has been charged with five class IV felonies, including two counts of making a false statement in a motor vehicle bill of sale, one count of acting as a motor vehicle dealer without a license and two counts of filing a false income tax return.

All five felonies are punishable by two years in prison, a $10,000 fine or both.

Stebbing voluntarily appeared at the Nebraska State Patrol offices to be cited on Thursday.
