Nebraska Medicine's biocontainment unit is conducting a drill today to test their preparedness in the transport and treatment of patients exposed to highly infectious diseases. The test included a simulation where subjects exposed to the Ebola virus were flown into Eppley airfield from Sierra Leone.
According to Daniel Polanski, the Deputy Director of the National Strategic Research Institute, this highly realistic simulation prepares Nebraska Medicine to manage and treat patients who have been exposed to highly infectious disease and helps them refine their standard operating procedures as to be more effective and to help prepare for a future outbreak and the transportation of large numbers of patients.
