Nebraska Safety Council hosts lunch-and-learn on seat belt use

The Nebraska Safety Council hosted a lunch-and-learn event about seatbelt use in Douglas County Wednesday. 

The event revealed that 85 percent of drivers use seatbelts in Douglas County but in the county, there were 152 fatal crashes and 70 percent of those were not wearing a seatbelt.

The event also addressed glare-related crashes and distracted driving, the Nebraska Safety Council says there’s one glare related crash a day. Resulting in more than 1,200 crashes a day. They recommend keeping polarized sunglasses close at all times while driving. 

Distracted driving crashes in the state have increased every year for the last seven years and in 2017, there were 4,699 crashes in Nebraska because of distracted driving.
