A new sports complex will soon be built in Elkhorn. Nebraska Elite and Omaha Sports Academy are planning on building a new 120,000 square foot facility near 204th and Dodge.
Nebraska Elite Volleyball said the new complex will help with the added number of girls they are getting every year; over the last year they have seen a 40% growth.
“We are seeing the benefits of what is happening in the college programs, with all the success for Nebraska and Creighton and all the Division II and NAIA programs,” Club Director Tony Carrow said.
The new facility will be along 209th and Cumberland. There will be eight volleyball courts and six basketball courts. For the past two years, Elite and OSA have worked to build the complex.
Elkhorn Training Camp will sit right across the street from the new facility, owner Mike Alessnadro is excited about the new neighbors.
“That is fantastic news because this area is going to turn into a bit of a meca for youth sports,” he said.
Carrow said the new place will be able to host more tournaments and they are even thinking of adding another national event to the Omaha area.
“We are starting another multi-day event that we will host at the CenturyLink and our facility,” he added.
The plan is to have the complex open by the fall of next year. Plans will be submitted to the city for final approval.
