OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) – It’s census data collecting time.

This is the decennial for the Census and it will be the first time you can fill out your information online.

You should receive your invitation letter starting next week. You can respond online, by mail or by phone.

Remember, the census will never ask for your social security number and a legit letter will always have a ".gov" website. Filling out the census data is critical to every city.

"The Decennial Census is very important to the Democracy of the United States,” said Josie Schafer, Director of the Center for Public Affairs Research at UNO. “It helps determine district boundaries for your political representatives and returns millions of tax dollars back to each and every state based on the number of people that are here.”

The census information also helps cities meet transportation and emergency readiness needs. If you do not respond by the deadline date, you will be visited by a door to door census data worker.
