Omaha Gives kicks off at midnight Wednesday. The annual event hosted by the Omaha Community Foundation funnels millions to local metro charities.
“There's power in our collective participation in this community so that any one of us doesn't feel like we're insignificant or irrelevant, because we can see that my $10 gift adds up,” said Sara Boyd, president of the Omaha Community Foundation. “We're hoping that over the course of time some of those transactions that might have been inspired by the experimentation actually endure.
Boyd said this year 789 organizations registered for the day of giving, which doled out nearly $9 million to local charities in 2015.
