An Omaha man, who was worried about his 87-year-old grandma living in hurricane Matthew’s path, came up with a clever way to check on her.

Eric Olsen said he couldn’t reach his grandmother, Claire Olsen, for several days, and when police and fire couldn’t help, he thought of another way, deliver pizza to her.

He wrote on Facebook:

Eric Olsen said he called Papa John’s and left very specific instructions. He asked the delivery guy arrive to call him, and put his grandmother on the phone.

Claire Olsen said on Sunday she was delivered a pepperoni pizza, “This pizza delivery guy comes in and said ‘your grandson is on the telephone he wants to see how you are’ and Papa John's delivered a pizza to me.”

Claire said she had a pretty great grandson and was happy to let her family know she was OK.

She said her house had no damage from the storm.

Eric said he has received many phone calls and messages telling him how clever and amazing his idea was.

As for the pepperoni pizza, Claire said it was fantastic.
