Omaha Police investigate Capitol District homicide

OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Update:

Detectives booked Marlon Miranda, Jr., 26, in connection with the homicide after being released from the hospital.

He is in Douglas County Corrections for the charges of 1st Degree Murder, Use of a Weapon to Commit a Felony, and Domestic Violence Assault.

Omaha Police are investigating a Capitol District shooting that left one dead overnight Saturday. Saturday evening the victim was identified as 26-year-old Jose Santos Parra Juarez. The name of the suspect taken into custody has not yet been released.

Officers arrived in the area of 12th and Davenport at 1:55 a.m. where the shooting victim was down on the sidewalk and a possible suspect was located.

An off-duty Bellevue Police officer working security in the area shot the suspect.

According to police, both the victim and suspect were transported to Nebraska Medical Center.

The victim later died from his injuries and the suspect is now in custody.
