Omaha Police report: Man injured in crash Monday morning not wearing seat-belt

A 51-year-old man suffered a serious head injury in a crash Monday morning on Interstate 680 because he wasn't wearing his seat belt, according to the Omaha Police report.

The crash happened at about 8:40 a.m. near the I-680 and West Dodge Road interchange, when a 1997 Jeep Cherokee SUV failed to slow down to allow for traffic congestion and rear-ended a 2005 Chevy Colorado pick-up.

The crash blocked all three southbound lanes of I-680 for some time Monday, forcing OPD and Nebraska State Patrol to direct traffic to the shoulder, the release states.

Both drivers were transported to CHI Bergan Mercy to receive treatment for their injuries. 

The driver of the Chevy, who was wearing a seat-belt, was treated for aches and pains.

Charges are pending against the driver of the Jeep, the release states.
