OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) - The soul food brought people through the doors at Big Mama's Kitchen and Catering and the owner's personality made them want to stay.

Greens and fried catfish are just some of the things Patricia "Big Mama" Barron, 76, was known for prior to her death Friday.

However, her food will continue to live on especialy once the current location near 45th Street and Bedford Avenue moves to the Highlander Accelarator near 30th and Lake streets in either the summer or fall, according to Othello Meadows from 75 North, the non-profit behind the project.
What looks like a construction site will be the new home of an iconic staple.

"One of my biggest regrets is not have this space ready in time for her to see it," Meadows says.

Despite dishing out finger-licking good food and appearing on national television, the entreprenuer said in 2010 her trademark rested on her work ethic.

"[You] come to work," she said. "Do your best and pass it on."

It's some thing Big Mama said she wanted to pass unto whoever she met and hired.

Meadows believes her legacy goes beyond the palette.

It's the way she empowered other women, he said.

"I think that is a really enduring gift that she's given to not only Omaha but also particularly to her family," Meadows says.

As for feeding souls, it will be her family who continues the legacy by serving up hot meals.
