The woman behind a popular North Omaha restaurant has died.

Patricia Barron is better known as "Big Mama" of "Big Mama's Kitchen and Catering" near 45th and Bedford.

The restaurant posted the news on its Facebook page.

The post said, "On this Good Friday, the Lord has called home a Great Woman. Patricia "Big Mama" Barron has gone to be with Jesus. Big Mama's last wish was for her daughters and family to carry on her passion for serving delicious soul food from the restaurant, Big Mama's Kitchen & Catering, which she so dearly loved."

The restaurant will be open this weekend including on Easter. It will then be closed April 2-5.

The restaurant is known for its soul food but has also hosted candidate forums and worked to create a gathering place in North Omaha. It's been featured on "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives."

According to the restaurant's web site, Barron climbed the ladder and started a successful business at the age of 65.
