Omaha Police will be handing out wristbands this summer for a “Cops and Kids Connecting” project.
The Embrace Blue apart of the Fraternal Order of Police are providing the wristband to police and each month will have a different focus. May’s focus is service and June, July, and September will be the other months to grab the other bands.
“Omaha has always been very supportive of the law enforcement community,” said OPD Captain Scott Gray, he said the wristbands are the perfect way to form bonds with kids.
“This is something our officers can carry with them, maybe have a few in their cruiser to hand out throughout the day,” he added.
Project manager Kathleen McCalister is with Embrace Blue, “We are trying to encourage lots on conversation between cops and kids,” she said.
Gray said the bracelets can be a lasting reminder for kids.
“I think it is a simple reminder that something they can look at their wrist.”
Embrace Blue said they planned for 2,000 wristbands but OPD requested double that amount. To support their project you can donate here.
