A new Omaha high school is a step closer to reality after an OPS Board vote Monday.

The board approved the $1.325 million land purchase near 156 th and Ida where the district wants to build a new northwest Omaha high school.

The purchase was on the board's consent agenda along with several other building projects paid with bonds from 2014. That's when voters approved a $421 million measure. Board members did not discuss the purchase, but said this construction season was going to be a busy one for the school district.

The board also grappled with other issues, including an expanded social work program that would add up to 19 new school social workers, and be paid for by $7.4 million grant from the Buffet-backed Sherwood Foundation.
