PHOTOS: Cat rescued from illegal leg trap

The Nebraska Humane Society says a cat is recovering after being rescued from an illegal leg trap Wednesday.

Officials say it is the third time animal control officers have responded to such an incident in the last 30 days.

The cat, which was named Ivy, was found in an alley, NHS said.

“When the officer arrived he found a female cat writhing in pain. She was caught in the viselike grip of a heavy, steel leg hold trap that was chained to a utility pipe,” they said in a statement Thursday.

Ivy was taken to be checked out.  Officials say she does not appear to have a broken leg, though it is swollen.

Leg traps are illegal in the Omaha, according to NHS.
