PHOTOS: Pygmy hippo at Omaha's Zoo turns 40

A pygmy hippo at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium got a special treat to celebrate her 40th birthday Tuesday.

Zoo caretakers gave Betty a nutritious cake with frosting made from sweet potato paste.

The Zoo shared photos of Betty enjoying her cake on its Facebook page. (See the post below)

They say the cake was made from nutrient-rich grains, mashed up bananas, diced apples, unsweetened applesauce, a dusting of ground-up browse biscuits, and a touch of honey.

In October, the Zoo welcomed a baby pygmy hippo named Mabel, who went on display a couple of months later.

The pygmy hippos are on display in the African Rainforest of the Lied Jungle.

Happy 40th Birthday, Betty! Here’s to many more years of you enjoying your favorite things. By the way, sweet potato frosting looks good on you!
