Alcohol sales will be allowed at the College World Series this year, the NCAA announced Wednesday.
A one-year pilot program that will allow beer and wine sales in general seating at the College World Series and Women’s College World Series, but excludes liquor, was approved by the Division I Board of Directors.
Previously, alcohol sales were only permitted in club and premium seats, beginning in 2013.
“NCAA staff will work with law enforcement in Omaha and Oklahoma City to monitor alcohol-related incidents at both venues in order to compare this year’s statistics with prior years,” officials said in a statement.
The sales will only be allowed at concession stands.
The 2016 College World Series runs from June 18 to June 28/29, with the Opening Day Celebration on June 17 at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha.
