The United States Postal Service is getting ready for what’s predicted to be the busiest mailing day of the holiday season on Monday.
Officials expect a record 2.8 million holiday packages in Nebraska and Southwest Iowa alone.
At the Omaha Mail Processing and Distribution Center workers use automated machines to sort through all the mail
The USPS credits the increase in packages with the growing popularity of shopping online.
Below are suggested mailing dates from the USPS to make sure your holiday cards and packages arrive on time:
- Military addresses in Iraq/Afghanistan/Middle East should be sent by Dec. 3, all other military addresses by Dec. 10
- International addresses should be sent between Dec. 1 and Dec. 11, depending on the destination
- U.S. addresses mail-by dates are Dec. 15 for standard post, Dec. 19 for first-class mail, Dec. 21 for priority mail and Dec. 23 for priority mail express
