Police say a man who was rescued from the Missouri River after jumping from the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge later died at the hospital.
The Omaha Police Department says around 11:15 a.m. the man, later identified as 45-year-old Richard Williams, jumped from the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge.
Asst. Chief Chris Sorensen, with the Council Bluffs Fire Department, described the response.
“Various emergency responders were reporting seeing the victim on top of the water on the way down there and kept a spot on the way until the hovercraft could be deployed into the water and then they were able to retrieve him from the water and bring him ashore. And he was transported to Creighton University Medical Center,” said Asst. Chief Chris Sorensen. (Listen to his entire statement in the video player above)
