OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Many dogs are spoiled by their owners, but others are not so lucky. That was the case for one Great Pyrenees named Grace. The 10-year-old dog was suspected to have lived two-years under a porch of an abandoned house in Missouri. Things have improved for her now thanks to the help of a few people.
Joy Bartling, Executive Director at Scatter Joy Acres heard about the dog, and made the trip to go rescue her. "She like fell into my lap (saying) thank god somebody has finally helped me," said Bartling.
Grace went to the vet soon after where medical issues were discovered, and staff did some much needed dental work. 10 teeth were pulled, but also during that work, they found metal pieces by her skull.
"We tend to believe that it was probably bullet fragments maybe a BB gun or something like that," said Bartling.
Grace has been at the sanctuary for a month now spending time with her new family on the road to recovery. Bartling says her medical expenses have totaled around $5,000.00 dollars, so far. More expenses are expected to come.
Grace's condition has improved, as Bartling is optimistic for her future. "Soon as we left that day in the truck and she looked back at her last time being there she knew that she had a different life that was going to be better for her."
