Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts signed a property tax reform package into law Tuesday.
Under the bill, the state will steer an extra $20 million to farm and ranch owners to offset their property taxes. The measure was one of Ricketts' top priorities this legislative session, but was watered down from his original proposal to impose spending controls on local governments. Ricketts signed another bill Monday that makes it easier for some local school districts to lower their property tax levy rates.
Ricketts says the bills aren't everything he wanted, but that compromise is part of the legislative process.
