Salvation Army opens cooling centers during heat wave

In preparation for the upcoming heat wave in the Omaha Metro, The Salvation Army have opened community cooling centers for the people who want to cool down. 

The heat index is set to be extremely high this week.

Officials say centers will be open until the heat wave has passed at the following locations:

  • Burrows Center lobby, 6101 NW Radial Highway: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Kroc Center, 2825 Y St.: Monday through Friday, Saturday & Sunday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • North Corps, 2424 Pratt St.: Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Lied Renaissance Center lobby, 3612 Cuming St.: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.
  • Citadel Corps, 3738 Cuming St.: Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. & 1 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
  • Council Bluffs Corps, 715 N. 16th St.: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Officials say that donations of bottled water is a major need for cooling center operations.

Water will be available for pickup at the Emergency Disaster Services building at their Burt Circle location.
