OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) - Authorities in Omaha are stepping up security across the United States in response to the terror attack in Manchester.

The primary concern is a similar bombing of a so-called "soft target" here. In Omaha, MECA officials released a statement saying thoughts and prayers are with those impacted by the Manchester tragedy.

Omaha is home to major sporting events and concerts and security is always a priority. MECA officals say they are in constant contact with Homeland Security, the FBI, Omaha police and the Douglas County Sheriff's Office about how to keep CenturyLink Center and TD Ameritrade events safe.

Both venues have upgraded security during the past few years, including increased wanding and bag checks and plans will be adjusted if law enforcement if needed.

Heavily armed police now patrol New York's Times Square and other popular locations. The Department of Homeland Security says while it's unaware of any specific threats against music venues, it is advising people to be cautious in and around any place where there's a large gathering.

Authorities say people should feel free to go about their lives, but at the same time, they're urging them to mind their surroundings - and report anything that seems suspicious.
