WASHINGTON (KMTV) - Jan Sharp has been named Acting United States Attorney for the District of Nebraska following the departure of United States Attorney Joe Kelly on Feb. 28.

Kelly and other U.S. Attorneys nationwide were asked by President Biden to tender their resignations effective that date.

Sharp’s appointment will take effect on March 1.

Sharp was hired by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in 1988 and has worked in the Criminal Division since his appointment. He was bumped up to Chief of the Criminal Division in 2001 and was appointed to serve as the First Assistant United States Attorney by Kelly in 2017.

Sharp will serve as the Acting U.S. Attorney until a successor has been appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate later this year.
