It's now a little easier to identify the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center that's under construction on the UNMC campus.
Construction crews on Monday installed two large signs on the north and south sides of the building located on Dewey Avenue between 44th Street and Durham Research Plaza. The signs weigh 8,000 pounds each and are 36 feet long and 16 feet tall. They will be lit with energy efficient LED lighting.
The 615, 000 square foot cancer center is expected to be completed in Spring 2017 at a cost of $323 million. It's expected to create 1,200 new jobs at the medical center and more than 4,600 new jobs in the metro area, pumping in an additional $537 million dollars into the Omaha economy each year.
