OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) -- Opening registers and changing your air filter are some of the easiest ways to save on your energy bill.

"When people start closing vents, there could be a danger in the furnace overheating which would lead to short-cycle, and if it overheats too much then it will lock out and you'll have to call us," said Ramon Gomez, Wichita Heating and Cooling service technician.

Ramon Gomez is walking through a regular clean-and-check to make sure all the parts in this furnace are running smoothly.

"We'll go in take things apart, clean, take out dust, change the filter, take out humidifier pads, then answer any questions [a customer] may have, then fire it up," Gomez said.

With recent tease of winter weather in Omaha, Gomez has been on a few calls around the city.

"Yeah the phones blow up," Gomez said. "When it gets colder and the furnace needs to run longer, that's when problems start popping up because furnace overheating."

But he knows there is still plenty of winter to come, and he's ready for those temps that really test the system.

"Last year when we had that negative 30 windchill, we were out all New Years weekend working just because it depends on the weather," Gomez said. "The hotter it is, the more demand. The colder it is, the more demand."
