Police say a man sought in connection with a stolen vehicle died after an officer-involved shooting Thursday evening.

William Adams, 33, was taken to the hospital where he later died after he was shot in an incident at an apartment at the Grover Square apartment complex, near 68th and Grover streets.

Police say he barricaded himself in the apartment when officers set up a perimeter in the area after locating an unspecified stolen vehicle there.

Earlier, officers began responding to a report about a disturbance over the stolen vehicle around 4:50 p.m. near 14th and B streets, according to police.

“At one point, shots were fired. A firearm was discharged by an Omaha Police officer,” officials said in a statement Friday morning.

The Omaha Police Department says the officer who opened fire has been put on paid administrative leave per policy until an Internal Affairs investigation is completed.

They expect to release more details about what happened later Friday.
