A high school student is accused of taking a gun to school Thursday in Tarkio, Missouri.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the 19-year-old student at Tarkio High School, which about 90 minutes south of Omaha, was taken into custody after a handgun was found in his backpack.
Investigators say school officials were told about a student possibly in possession of ammunition on school property.
“School officials contacted the student and escorted him to a secure location in the high school and contacted the Tarkio Police Department,” the Missouri State Highway Patrol said in a statement.
The school was placed on lockdown while they searched the rest of the facility as a precaution.
The student was taken to the Atchison County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities are still investigating this case.
