OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Millard Public Schools has issued two statements regarding claims of child abuse in the district.
Update: OPD: more info on sexual assault of child in summer program
The Omaha World-Herald reports that police say the boy had four or five rug burns on his back after the Sept. 6 incident.
Millard Public Schools spokeswoman Rebecca Kleeman says several staffers at Walt Disney Elementary saw and reported what she described as “unacceptable roughness with a student” to school administrators.
The teacher has been placed on administrative leave. Douglas County Court records don’t show that she’s been formally charged, but police say she was cited on suspicion of child abuse.
Update 3:30 p.m.
Millard Public Schools has provided the following statement regarding the incident at Walt Disney Elementary:
Multiple staff members saw and reported unacceptable roughness with a student to the school administration. The administrators immediately contacted Child Protective Services and our human resources department for an internal investigation. These two steps are always followed in any situation involving allegations against a student. Our principals have also been in contact with the families involved. Beyond sharing these actions that we have taken, we cannot offer any additional comments because this is an ongoing investigation and a personnel matter.
The school district has also issued a statement regarding a summer swim instructor who has been charged with touching a child inappropriately:
After the summer swim program concluded, a young swimmer said they had been touched inappropriately underwater by a teenage swim instructor. The parents contacted the program director who contacted Child Protective Services the same day.
That teenager has subsequently been arrested and charged with touching a child inappropriately. The teen is a Millard student. We have followed our code of conduct regarding the matter. The teen has not been involved with the swim program since we were made aware of the allegation.
