TRAFFIC ALERT: Snow snarls morning commute

and last updated

Early morning snowfall covered roads in the Omaha metro, making the morning commute a slow one for many.

The Omaha Police Department stopped responding to non-injury accidents around 5:35 a.m.  Drivers involved in property damage crashes were asked to exchange information on their own.

Around 8 a.m., the Bellevue Police Department reported traffic was at a standstill on northbound Highway 75 from Highway 370.

The Council Bluffs Public Works Operations said crews would be out on emergency routes until the snow stopped.

"Once the emergency routes are cleared the crews will move to residential routes. As always, we ask that you drive with caution," officials wrote in an update on Facebook.

Monday night, Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert said 100 city trucks would be out at midnight to plow and salt the roads.
