The Treynor, Iowa school district will begin a search for a new superintendent.
Current Superintendent Kevin Elwood submitted his resignation letter to the Treynor school board during a special session Wednesday night. Elwood stated in an email to staff that he was told last week that the board was interested in making a leadership change. The board approved his resignation and separation agreement effective at the end of his contract on June 30th.
Elwood issued a statement saying "I wish only the best for the students, staff and district moving forward. I'm grateful to have been part of the Treynor Community Schools for the past 19 years"
The Iowa School Board suspended Elwood for 30 days in 2015 after questions arose about his handling of a sexual assault complaint involving a student and his son.
Kreighton Elwood served jail time in September of 2013 after pleading guilty to false imprisonment and assault causing bodily harm. As part of the plea deal he had to register as a sex offender for ten years and spend two years on probation.
