14-year-old facing second-degree murder charge in weekend homicide

Two teenagers were arrested in connection to the killing of 17-year-old Zachary Parker, who was shot near 25th and Crown Point on Sunday. 

Tyon Wells, 14, will be charged with second-degree murder with a weapon and second-degree assault with a weapon. Wells appeared in court Thursday afternoon and had is bond set at $1 million. He was initially booked on one count of first-degree murder, two counts of attempted first-degree murder, and three counts of use of a weapon to commit a felony.

The 15-year-old male suspect will be charged in juvenile court with conspiracy to distribute marijuana. . He was initially booked on one count of first-degree murder and one count of use of a weapon to commit a felony. 

Authorities say Parker and another 17-year-old teen injured in the incident were in a car near 25th and Crown Point to meet the 15-year-old for the purpose of purchasing marijuana. The unidentified juvenile suspect got in the vehicle to sell the drugs, authorities say, when Wells allegedly pulled a gun, made threats and shot Parker and the other 17-year-old.

Authorities said they believe Parker and the unidentified 15-year-old suspect knew one another.
