Original story - 11/9/22:

Omaha Police are investigating a shooting downtown. Not overnight, but Wednesday morning at a time many were just getting to work.

Around 8:30 a.m. Omaha police received a call of a shooting in the 17th Street Parking garage off of Douglas Street.

"I was driving in, going down Douglas. And I see three cop cars, right here, all lit up," said Meghan Tompsett, who works in the Brandeis building next to the parking garage.

Tompsett said she also parks in the garage and found out from her boss what happened.

"Come to find out, two teenagers, a shooting in the parking garage," Tompsett said.

Omaha police said five teenagers, on the seventh floor of the parking garage, were approached by a shooter. Two teens were transported from the scene to Nebraska Medical Center — one with serious injuries and another with life-threatening injuries.

Omaha police officers on the scene, Wednesday afternoon, said those injuries are now non-life threatening.

Hadeel Hatter works at the Peregrine Downtown Omaha hotel, she didn't hear the incident happen, but she was at work.

"Actually I saw the injured guy. He come(s) across the street here and he crossed. And he just run into the parking lot. And I didn't know anything about the situation," Hatter said.

Police also looked for evidence in a second parking structure, the Tower Park garage near 18th and Douglas streets.

Hatter said police arrived and that is when she found out about the shooting; making her a little nervous working in the area.

"It's the first time I saw this. So I don't know what the feeling is," Hatter said.

She's not alone.

"How does that make you feel as someone who lives in the area," 3 News Now reporter Molly Hudson asked.

"Honestly not real good, yeah not good at all. I'm praying for whoever was the victim and I, hopefully it wasn't like just a senseless shooting," Blaine Brown, a resident in the area said.

Brown said this happening makes him a little nervous to walk around downtown.

"The fact that it happened at 8:30 makes me feel a little nervous but, yeah I'll just be more vigilant I guess," Brown said.

Omaha police did not give us a description of the suspect and the relationship between the suspect and the victims is unknown.
