We're learning more about the man who Omaha Police believe was driving drunk and hit and killed a man early Saturday morning.
Police booked 27-year-old Edwin Elvir-Palma for leaving the scene of a fatal crash, and felony DUI with four previous convictions. Polic say Saturday at about 2-30 a.m. Elvir-Palma hit and killed Margaritio Nava-Luna at 104-th and Manderson Plaza. Elvir-Palma told police he was drinking with Nava-Luna at Bogies Bar and Grill before it happened, and left alone. Elvir-Palma an undocumented immigrant from Honduras. Douglas County Sheriff Chief Deputy Tom Wheeler says "initially the name he gave us when we searched for him turned out to be an alias, he had two names on file. At this time i think we're still trying to sort out exactly who this is but we'll run fingerprint cards through the FBI to determine if we can make identification on him." Immigrations and Customs enforcement placed an immigration hold on Elvir-Palma who remains at the Douglas County Jail.
ICE Spokesman Shawn Neudauer issued a statement saying: "Officers with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) in Omaha placed a detainer with the Douglas County (Nebraska) Jail on Edwin Elvir-Palma (aka Orling Carrasco-Zelaya) on April 17, following his local arrest. Elvir-Palma is considered an immigration fugitive based on a previously issued deportation order issued by a federal immigration judge on March 20, 2012."
