Islamic Center of Omaha vandals caught on video

Posted

Investigators have released surveillance video showing two men wanted for destruction of property at the Islamic Center of Omaha.

Officers, who were called to the Islamic Center around 10 p.m. on Tuesday, were told someone left slices of bacon on a door handle.

In surveillance video released Thursday, two men can be seen leaving the bacon and throwing rocks at the building around 3:30 a.m.

Police say a black sedan caught on video is also believed to be the suspect vehicle.

It is not the first time vandals have targeted the Islamic Center. In November the Council on American-Islamic Relations asked the FBI to investigate the vandalism as a hate crime.

That was after someone spray painted graffiti of an Eiffel Tower image on the building.

"It is disturbing that a house of worship would be targeted four times by hate vandalism, while the perpetrators remain at large," CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper said in a statement Wednesday. "We urge local, state and federal authorities to redouble their efforts to protect this congregation from hate attacks."
