OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) - A business that started right here in Nebraska in a spare bedroom is now a national treat that people can't get enough of.

The Village PieMaker is a Nebraska homegrown business that recently expanded. The operations are now able to produce 10,000 pies in a single shift and are shipped all across the country.

The top sellers of apple, cherry, peach and strawberry rhubarb now have a new contender to compete with for the holidays. A limited edition pumpkin pie has been added to the lineup.

Despite the expansion, the pies haven't moved away from the traditions that made it so special.

"Handmade pies are what give it that extra special magic that makes them look and taste so good," said Joe Ricketts of Village PieMaker.

“We kept the secret sauce that made all of our other pies so popular. We keep it handmade, sourced good ingredients, no artificial flavors,” added Craig Buettner, Vice President of Operations for Village PieMaker.

One tip that they gave out, they top the crust with a coat of milk before topping with sugar. They also have a holiday limited edition cranberry apple pie.

The pies can be purchased locally at Hy-Vee, Fairway and Wal-Mart.
