A Douglas County resident has died from complications of the West Nile virus, according to a release from the Douglas County Health Department.
The person was over 65 and suffered from underlying health conditions.
West Nile can be spread through bids and mosquitoes and there are 16 potential breeding sites in Douglas County where the virus could be developed.
Health Director Dr. Adi Pour said the number of cases in Douglas County are up significantly this year and the best way to avoid the virus from spreading is to protect yourself against mosquito bites.
