Westroads Mall is getting a major makeover, and it’s aimed at your stomach.

The Flagship Commons is in the final steps before it opens up a new food court.

“We are hoping to open December 21st,” said Anthony Hitchcock, who is the chief operator for Flagship Restaurant Group.

He said the mixed use dining facility hired 220 employees and they got their first taste of working here on Wednesday, “orientation is today and tomorrow, we start training today and next Monday we start cooking.”

The construction began for this food court last summer, and was supposed to open before Thanksgiving, but the places 400 pieces of fabricated steel didn’t all make it on time.

“They couldn’t fabricate it quickly enough for us, so we were like alright so we will just wait,” said Hitchcock.

Eight new eating places will go into the commons here.

Amsterdam Falafel & Kabob, Blatt Beer & Table, Aromas Coffeehouse and Ted & Wally’s are already known to the area.

Yum Roll by Blue Suhi Sake Grill, Yoshi-Ya Ramen, Weirdough Pizza, Juan Taco, and Clever Greens will be new additions to the Omaha food network.

“There is full service, there is fast casual, there is entertainment with ping-pong and foosball,” said Hitchcock.

There will also be a full service bar and almost every food service will have alcoholic beverages.

The next step to get the commons up and running is get all the staff trained and to get cooking, “just start producing the food, we have only produced in kitchens outside of here so we need to produce it in the kitchens here,” said Hitchcock.

The existing food court will close as of January 1st. The Raising Cane’s, Subway and Dairy Queen will have to relocate in the mall.
