Rain darkens Salvation Army's Tree of Lights

Posted

Wind and rain have temporarily darkened the Salvation Army’s Tree of Lights.

The Salvation Army says they cut power to 75-foot tree, which features 85,000 LED lights, Monday morning amid safety concerns because of recent weather.

“The Salvation Army Tree of Lights has experienced multiple power outages as a result of inclement weather today and over the past weekend,” the nonprofit said in a press release.

Though the tree isn’t lit, the campaign continues with Red Kettles collecting donations in the community.

Organizers say this year’s campaign is at 41.3 percent of its goal with only nine days to go.  They are about $144,000 behind when compared to the same time period last year.

Last weekend, a gold coin worth $170 was found in among donations in a Red Kettle at Mangelsen’s.
