One woman is dead, and a man injured after a weekend crash. Investigators are now trying to figure out what led up to it, and why the driver wasn't found for hours.
The single vehicle crash happened just north of the Platte River Bridge on Highway 31 near Highway 50 outside of Springfield early Sunday morning.
A passer-by saw the truck in a ditch and called 911. Deputies believe the vehicle rolled and 20-year-old Tiffany Hofmeister, of Lincoln, was ejected. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sarpy County Sheriff's Deputies searched for the driver, 20-year-old Colin Larsen of Louisville, for quite some time. They used K-9’s, cell phone pings, and the Nebraska State Patrol helicopter. He was located about a mile west of the crash scene 6 hours later. It’s unclear why he left the scene.
"We've got little information about that other than possibly going to get help, but the location he was at was pretty rural," said Captain John Kucer with the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office.
Larsen was taken to an Omaha hospital, and was last listed in fair condition.
Investigators are looking at if alcohol or speed were factors in the crash.
