Falcon chicks banded, genders revealed

We now know the genders of the falcon chicks born in the WoodmenLife Tower in Downtown Omaha.

WoodmenLife officials said that after tower falcons were banded and blood-tested Friday, They determined that there are three female falcons and one male falcon.

The falcon's gender is determined solely on the size of the falcon’s feet. 

Fontenelle Forest Raptor Recovery and the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission banded the chicks and performed health checks.

Officials added that this is the 28th year in which peregrine falcons have chosen to nest atop the WoodmenLife Tower.

This is also the second year in which the falcon pair Mintaka and Charity have produced offspring.

Now officials are letting fans to name the chicks by going to WoodmenLife’s Facebook page, as part of their annual "Name the falcons" contest.
