Swedish retailer IKEA issued a safety announcement regarding its SUNDVIK changing table and chest of drawers Tuesday after it received reports of children falling off the furniture.

According to the information posted on IKEA's website , the foldable part of the changing table can come loose, leading to children falling off of it.

"In these incidents the safety locking fittings were either not used according to instruction or were not fitted at time of construction," the recall states.

As a precautionary measure, IKEA will provide additional safety locking kits where they have been lost or misplaced free of charge.

While the information is only a safety alert in the U.S., it is a recall in other countries.

Customers had been using the product as a foldable changing table on a daily basis and weren't using the safety locking fittings according to instructions when the children fell off, according to IKEA Singapore.

The company echoed this same message in the recall on its website: "IKEA alerts customers who have purchased the SUNDVIK changing table/chest to ensure that they use the safety locking fittings provided at all times. Customers must not use the product for infant changing if these fittings are not in place correctly or are missing."

The product is safe when used as intended and according to instructions provided.
