A 39-year-old mother was indicted in New Bedford, Massachusets on Thursday after authorities found 19 dead animals in her 13-year-old son's bedroom, the Standard-Times reported

According to the Standard-Times, police and animal control visited the home when it picked up a stray dog that was believed to belong to Amanda Vicente. When authorities arrived, they found 19 dead animals along with 17 living animals in 27 cages.

Police told the Standard-Times that they found piles of feces in the kitchen and the house was in disarray.

Authorities found dead lizards, hamsters, cockatiels and finches in the boy's room. The surviving animals were reportedly malnourished. Those animals have been taken to veterinary care.

The child has been placed in the custody of relatives.

Vicente was allowed to place bond, and will face a judge in December on child abuse and animal cruelty charges.
