WELLINGTON, Fla. — A Florida family helped create a national holiday in honor of their mother who died earlier this year.

The National Day Calendar agreed that June 27 will forever be known as National Ice Cream Cake Day. Jenna Jurado petitioned the organization for the day to celebrate her mother, Johanna Jurado.

Johanna passed away in April. She would have celebrated her 52nd birthday on June 27.

In the submission to the National Day Calendar, Jenna said Johanna would receive a homemade ice cream cake every year for her birthday.

Johanna’s family said she taught in Palm Beach County for 25 years. Jenna said she and her mother would check the National Day Calendar and would pick a few to celebrate every week.

National Day Calendar reports they receive 18,000 submissions for holidays every year and only 30 are selected.

Jenna is expected to receive a framed proclamation soon in honor of the national holiday being selected.
