Senator Sasse added there are questions about the lack of preparedness by police during the deadly riots at the Capitol on Wednesday.
He said what President Trump did was "wicked," but says the most important question is what happens to the people of this country moving forward and how people come together.
The death toll from the Capitol riots is up to five, including a Capitol police officer who died from his injuries Thursday.
Senator Sasse issued a statement on the officer's death:
“This is gut-wrenching news. None of this should have happened. Melissa and I are praying for Officer Sicknick's family and for the families of the four others who died. Our country aches for the families who mourn. Lord, have mercy."
