Young child struck, killed by vehicle backing out of Louisiana driveway

A young child was struck and killed by a vehicle backing out of a driveway in southern Louisiana on Tuesday.

The Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office says it happened south of Rayne, in the 100 block of Robin Street, at about 6:54 p.m.

An investigation into the incident found that a driver was backing out from a residential driveway when their vehicle struck the child.

The juvenile was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim’s age and identity were not immediately released.

The investigation remains open, but deputies don’t suspect impairment at this time.
