Bridge Beats kicks off Friday with chalk artist

The Bridge Beats free summer concert series presented by the City of Omaha Parks and Recreation department kicks off Friday at the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge Plaza with pop cover band Waiting for Weekend.

3-D chalk artist Jennifer Chaparro, and Ox 'n' Bull BBQ food truck will also be on hand.

The "Chalk Walk" will feature 3-D chalk artist, Jennifer Chaparro from Palm Beach, Florida. Using soft pastel chalk, Chaparro has been working on a large interactive art piece that depicts Lewis and Clark since Thursday.

"It's one point perspective. So you have to look at it from one sweet spot and that's the only place it works."

In addition, local artist Kristin Pluhacek will guide Bridge Beats visitors through the creation of large scale insects, flowers, and more. It's to celebrate the centennial for the National Park Service.

Bridge Beats shows are every other Friday night beginning June 10 and ending August 19 at the base of the pedestrian bridge on the Nebraska riverfront. The family friendly concerts begin at 6:00pm and run until 9:30pm. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair, blanket and a picnic basket - or enjoy food for sale available from food trucks on site. KMTV is a proud sponsor of the event.
