We all know the Nebraska Humane Society helps four-legged friends, in need.
As Lindsey Theis found, the rescue also offers programs to help people who may fall on difficult times.
I got my my little helper Jenny here today and she's telling me about some of the other programs that the Nebraska Humane Society is offering oh yeah get that really rub about some of the things the Nebraska Humane Society is offering for folks who find themselves on hard times.
For many of us, this or this is the only thing we might thinking of with the Humane Society. But for many its these volunteers, not any adopted furbaby, are their interaction with the Humane Society. For a few years the Humane Society has offered a pet food pantry. this truck on wheels is stocked with food people donate to the shelter.
"For us it makes perfect economic sense to give out a little bit of food and also it makes perfect sense for mission to keep an animal with a family whenever possible" says Pam Wiese
See the Humane Society is fed by Purina. Meaning Purina supplies a uniform diet for the animals in their care. But these donations still go to use. "We will provide them with a couple of weeks worth of food or a months worth of food depending on how many animals they have what size if it's a puppy i want to get a puppy food if it's a cat cat food obviously small bites big bites that kind of thing to be able to make sure that we're giving the best nutrition for their animal"
Another program is called Animeals. Think Meals on Wheels but for those pet owners. "Will deliver cat food cat litter they'll deliver puppy food or dog food i think we had a cockatiel once at one point in time to where we delivered birdseed to a gal who needed that."
